Metro Schools To Receive Debrillators

... Chief Stephen Halford, acting director of the Office of Emergency Management and director of the Nashville Fire Department, will present the AEDs to 20 principals at the meeting.

The devices will be used in case of cardiac arrest.

The OEM, which received a Homeland Security grant, strives to have an AED placed in every Metro-owned building.

The Nashville Fire Department, a member of the Nashville Public Access Defibrillation program, will train about 80 teachers and coaches from Metro Schools to be CPR/AED instructors this summer.

As part of a grant the Nashville Fire Department is currently seeking, the fire department will set up a system to train between 8,000-10,000 students annually in CPR and AED use.

"This is a collaboration between two city departments to establish a sustainable CPR/AED in schools program for Nashville," Halford said in a news release.

"We're very excited to see more people in Nashville will be CPR and AED trained because of this program."
