County wants defibrillators in all cruisers

...The medical device sends a shock to the heart, often helping people survive heart attacks.

Paramedics already carry Sheriff Ed Graybeal first thought of the idea after one of his friend's died from a heart attack.

He says deputies are often first on the scene after a 911 call goes out , sometimes minutes before paramedics, and when it comes to heart attacks, minutes can mean the difference between life and death.

Gary Smith knows that.

He thinks back to november 17, 2003, a day he'll never forget.

While refereeing a basketball game he suffered a heart attack.

"I put my hands on my knees and that's the last thing i remember," Smith said.
