...George Warren and his family donated the AEDs, which will be installed at the UW-Madison Police Department and the UW Athletic Department.Five years ago this weekend, Warren was running in the annual Crazy Legs Classic when he collapsed on campus.

He said an AED and some quick-thinking citizens saved his life."Well, we wanted to present something and give back to the university for what their employees did for us and for me, because it affected me and my family very much," Warren said.Steve Sasso, a retied UW-Madison police officer, said that he has witnessed AEDs help save lives while on the job."I've been retired for four and a half years and we only had them about three years before I retired, and we had several people's lives be saved by having these in our squad cars," Sasso said.To raise the money, each member of the Warren family donated to a defibrillator fund instead of buying each other Christmas gifts.

The family said they will be walking together in the Crazy Legs this weekend. The Madison Fire Department said it is looking for help locating AEDs in the community.

All Schools Getting an AED

...AEDs can send a life-saving shock to a heart in cardiac arrest.

Michelle Tipton of Beulah has been working for years to raise awareness about the need for AEDs in schools.

Her teenage son died of a rare heart defect more than eight years ago.

"Those families are the reason I`m here," says Tipton.

"And hopefully we can stop that from happening and we would be able to say there won`t be any more cardiac arrest deaths of kids on school property in the state of North Dakota." The bill also provides funding to train school staff to properly use an AED.
