Beneficiaries of Harvest Day celebration announced

...Jean Zylber, youth services assistant for the Yardley-Makefield Branch of the Bucks County Free Library, said the library has used contributions in the past for a sundry of things, including the purchase of a popcorn machine.

The machine helps present "family flicks," Zylber quipped.

The funds are also used for reading enrichment activities for youths.

"I am blessed to be part of this community, Zylber said, "and I appreciate your generosity." Patricia Jackson and Jean Gadson of Bloomsdale/Fleetwing Improvement Committee accepted their commendation.

They said this is a special occasion because it celebrates the legacy of Geraldine Marell, "who is here in spirit - she was our first contact" with the MWA.

"In her memory, we will do something with our after-school program for kids." Jackson and Gadson said their group helps youth in the Lower Bucks County.

Marcy Bossow-Schankweiler, who founded Crossing the Finish Line, accepted her group's award.

Her late husband had cancer.

She told of his medical treatment at the University of Pennsylvania.

Because of his cancer, she started her group.

"I wanted to do something with people, who are very alone with cancer." Marcy, who is a Bucks County resident and president of her group, said it has a home near Disneyland, Fla.

for cancer patients' loved ones.

And it has donated homes throughout the country.

In the Delaware Valley, the group has about 80 families, whom it services.

"We really make memories," she said.

reported strong first-quarter numbers Thursday, sending its stock sharply higher and bolstering hopes that the beleaguered U.S.

market for heart-shocking implantable cardioverter Jude, based in Little Canada, reported net income of $145.7 million, or 41 cents a share, up 6 percent from the year-ago quarter.

That beat the consensus analysts' estimate of 40 cents a share, according to Thomson Financial.

Revenue rose 13 percent to $887 million.The company also boosted its full-year 2007 earnings guidance to $1.72 to $1.77 a share, from the previous estimate of $1.70 to $1.75.

In morning trading, St.

Jude's stock was up by more than $2 a share, or more than 5 percent.St.

Jude reported increased first-quarter sales in all its divisions - most impressively, a 26 percent rise in atrial fibrillation products, which treat abnormal heart rhythms.
