South Beloit City Council disagrees on vacating alley

...The AEDs were demo units, so the South Beloit Fire Department would be able to buy them for half of the usual cost and still receive a warranty on the products, Fire Chief Ken Morse said.

A new unit costs $2,125.Another item approved at the meeting was increasing the security deposit for the park building rental from $100 to $200.

Commissioner Pam Clifton suggested the increase because she said sometimes people who rent a park building leave messes or damages that the city must clean up for a cost greater than $100.

People attending wedding or anniversary events often do not clean up, possibly because they do not want to ruin the nice clothes worn at such events, Clifton said.City Clerk Marilyn Hartley said she thought the city only refused to refund one security deposit.

However, the city council still decided to approve of the security deposit increase.Kirichkow also declared the week of April 29 to May 5 is Municipal Clerks Week.

He recognized City Clerk Marilyn Hartley for her 25 years of service to South Beloit. At the end of the meeting, the councilors wished each other luck in today's election.

At least one seat on the council will change after the election.

Mayor Randy Kirichkow is competing with Commissioner Todd Edge to become mayor, which means Edge's commissioner spot will be open.

The three incumbent commissioners - Pam Clifton, Bob Redieske and Bob Stone - will r...

Boston Sci gets OK for lead device

... The product, which Boston Scientific plans to launch in July, features a deflectable tip for precise placement of the lead even in difficult-to-access branch vessels on the left side of the heart, the company said in a statement.

A lead is an insulated wire that carries the heart signal to the implanted device and delivers energy from the device to the heart.

In most cases, leads are passed into the heart through veins.

The approval comes one day after Boston Scientific announced FDA officials had lifted all restrictions at the company's Guidant plant in Minnesota.

The restrictions were place in 2005 after device defects linked to seven deaths prompted recalls.

FDA Approves Innovative Heart Failure Lead

...A lead is an insulated wire that carries the heart signal to the implanted device and delivers energy from the device to the heart.

In most cases, leads are passed into the heart through veins."The ability to place a left ventricular lead precisely where it will stimulate the heart most effectively is a key factor in providing patients with optimal cardiac resynchronization therapy," said Dr.

Stephen Mester, Medical Director of Electrophysiology Lab, Tampa General Hospital.

"The ACUITY Steerable lead's deflectable tip control is similar to an electrophysiology catheter and allows me to easily maneuver it into side- branch vessels." Dr.

Mester served as Principal Investigator for the ACUITY Steerable lead clinical trial."Our Cardiac Rhythm Management group is moving in the right direction with this product approval and yesterday's announcement that the warning letter has been resolved," said Jim Tobin, President and Chief Executive Officer of Boston Scientific.

"We look forward to making this lead available to physicians so they can offer this advanced therapy to their heart failure patients."The ACUITY Steerable lead, which will be broadly available in July, also provides physicians with four configurations for stimulating the left ...
